Voyage description
An expedition in summer offers you very good opportunities for a complete Arctic experience. Step aboard the sailing ship Noorderlicht and join us in searching polar bears, walruses & whales, arctic foxes and special bird species such as the ivory gull and puffins. Be amazed at the versatility of the Arctic wilderness with spectacular glaciers, encounters with Arctic animals and delve into the history of Spitsbergen with a visit to historic whaling stations.

Time to step aboard. Tall Ship Noorderlicht will be waiting for you at the so-called ‘floating pier’ in Longyearbyen where you can embark at 16:00. After a welcome speech from the captain and meeting your fellow travelers we will cast off the mooring lines and set sail. In the evening we will anchor at Trygghamna.

The first zodiac landing in Trygghamna. Yyou can see the remains of a 17th century whaling stations. From here we will hike to the 428-meter high Alkhornet cliff, where some 10,000 pairs of different seabirds breed. After lunch on board the crew will set sail and head to the bay Grimaldibukta.

During this voyage we will set course to the North-West of Svalbard. Depending on the circumstances, the places listed below are possible destinations.

Unfortunately, our adventure through the Arctic landscape of Spitsbergen has come to an end. After a hearty breakfast, you are kindly requested to disembark by 09:00. We hope that we have been able to show you the variety and beauty of Spitsbergen and that you enjoyed an unforgettable experience on board the Noorderlicht.

All itineraries are for guidance only. Programs may vary depending on ice, weather, and wildlife conditions. Landings are subject to site availabilities, permissions, and environmental concerns per AECO regulations. Official sailing plans and landing slots are scheduled with AECO prior to the start of the season, but the expedition leader determines the final plan. Flexibility is paramount for expedition cruises.

With over 30 years of sailing in Spitsbergen and Nothern Norway Tall Ship Noorderlicht has built a reputation as the most famous Tall Ship in Spitsbergen. The ship is equipped with one goal: accommodating adventurers during their expeditions to Spitsbergen and Northern Norway. Because of her shallow draft she is able to navigate through the least visited fjords. She offers room for 20 guests and is therefore the perfect vessel for forming new friendships. If you wish to learn a thing or two about sailing a Tall Ship, you are invited to give the crew a hand.
